meta.anchors.placeholder_status

Implementation references and test annotations inside a Rust module named todo record work not yet done; those inside not_applicable record that the implementation or test does not apply. Each entry retains this status and its accompanying explanation. Ordinary entries, TODO entries, and Not applicable entries are displayed separately, even when they reference the same rule. An empty special module creates no entry: it must contain an implementation reference or an annotated test to account for the respective requirement.

mod not_applicable {
    // {anchor}`example.documentation_rule`
    // This rule describes documentation organization and has no runtime implementation.
}

mod todo {
    #[test]
    #[sage::test(example.documentation_rule)]
    fn documentation_rule() {
        // TODO: Check the generated documentation against the rule.
    }
}

The example’s example.documentation_rule stands for an existing definition; it does not declare a rule. Placeholder status applies independently to the implementation and test sides. Nesting a module under both todo and not_applicable is an error.

Review: Accepted · Codex anchor_094 final reviewer for placeholder_status.

Fresh review of the complete meta.anchors.placeholder_status claim, including its explanatory example and final qualifications. The requirements are module-based TODO/N/A classification, retained per-entry rationale, separate ordinary/TODO/N/A display for a common rule, no coverage from empty special modules, independent implementation and test classifications, and rejection of an evidence-bearing module nested under both special classifications. The example names an already-defined rule and demonstrates references/annotations rather than introducing a new definition.

All three ordinary implementation entries were assessed. evidence.rs placeholder_status scans enclosing module components after the crate name, normalizes raw identifiers, returns Todo or NotApplicable for the respective ancestry, and errors for both. index_source invokes it per actual comment reference, retains status/cfg/explanation in each ImplementationSite, and appends each entry rather than replacing a different status for the same rule. Module traversal supplies scope ancestry; ordinary functions named todo do not become special modules. Explanation extraction uses actual line comments, excludes delimiter/marker comments, and limits point rationale before another evidence marker even when the fixed preview overlaps. Empty modules cannot produce comment entries. The newly associated review.rs inventory independently classifies each annotated test by its owner, preserves complete source including explanation comments, and propagates classification errors. Captured correspondence record_tests only creates an entry for a valid annotated test, so empty test modules create none. The newly associated book/anchors.rs page renders each implementation and test in its own section with its own badge; implementation rationale is explicit text and test rationale remains in the complete displayed source. Its states/statuses paths independently collect both sides and retain each distinct status for a common rule. No review result converts either classification. Thus the example's N/A implementation and TODO test can coexist independently without declaring a new specification claim.

Complete tests: implementation_status_uses_module_ancestry_and_preserves_cfg_and_explanations asserts three distinct same-rule sites with TODO/N/A/ordinary statuses, exact reasons and cfg, nested ancestry, a function named todo remaining ordinary, and no entries from empty special modules. adjacent_points_keep_their_own_explanations_even_when_previews_overlap deliberately verifies that the first excerpt includes the next site's text while its explanation remains exactly its own, and separately checks the second rationale. conflicting_placeholder_modules_are_rejected_and_test_explanations_skip_strings verifies an indexed conflict diagnostic, reverse-order classifier conflict, exclusion of a crate named todo, recognition of r#todo, and test rationale extraction that ignores a raw-string fake comment. Assertions are substantive and directly visible; the captured index helper invokes the real source inventory.

The fourth entry, todo::implementation_and_test_placeholder_status, is explicitly deferred and has no executable assertions. Its comment calls for separately exercising both sides, retaining explanations and excluding empty modules. Ordinary tests now cover implementation-side classification and rationale thoroughly, while complete integrated annotated-test classification and separate generated-page display for mixed implementation/test statuses remain deferred. Replacing this TODO requires a fixture with independently varied implementation and test statuses for the same existing rule, complete rationale comments, empty-module controls and conflicting ancestry, followed by assertions on inventory metadata and rendered separate entries. This prerequisite is a substantive integration fixture; the empty test is not claimed as evidence that those assertions ran. No N/A evidence entries exist for this anchor itself.

Source review found no concrete contradiction requiring behavioral changes. With root authorization I added only essential association comments in review.rs and book/anchors.rs, ran cargo fmt, then restarted this review on the fresh inputs. cargo build -p sage-meta passed. No test suite or browser execution was performed in this final review; centralized execution and delegated post-codegen/Sage checks remain separate coordinator work. The justified integration TODO remains visible; no further edits are requested.
