crates.sage_test_harness.compile_tests.rendering

The combined type observations, the complete rendered Sage diagnostic output, and an optional query log are separate expect_test::Expect values, created with the expect_test::expect! macro from the expect-test crate. Examples use expect! after use expect_test::expect;. The runner uses that library for snapshot comparison and UPDATE_EXPECT=1 updates, subject to the blessing gate. Type descriptions and expression ordering are deterministic. Expression source descriptions occupy one line, omit annotation comments, and normalize whitespace between tokens without changing token contents or merging tokens. Literal contents are preserved; embedded line breaks and delimiter characters are escaped as needed to keep the description on one line and unambiguous. Diagnostic rendering preserves meaningful order, labels, notes, and source excerpts, including annotation comments. Paths use fixture-relative names rather than temporary directories or machine-specific roots. Normalization removes incidental presentation details only; it does not erase semantic distinctions, unresolved results, or unexpected diagnostics.

Review: Accepted · /root/final_quality.

Fresh review of the complete rendering claim, five ordinary implementation entries and nine ordinary tests. No TODO/N/A entries. Captured additional parser-tree helper, symbol freezing and trace projection dependencies. Source/assertion inspection only: no Rust edits, build or test reruns. An out-of-range trace capture was retried as a successful whole-file capture.

Snapshot boundaries: compile/mod.rs stores the three caller-created Expect values independently and calls their assert_eq methods only after successful preparation. observe.rs builds separate observations, diagnostics and optional pretty-JSON queries strings; unmatched diagnostics or missing/ambiguous/incomplete observations return errors before comparisons. It does not normalize failures into empty success. Expected text is not an input to semantic rendering. This uses expect-test's comparison/update mechanism and the visible preparation gate.

Deterministic observation rendering: targets use an ordered set and rows a stable file/end/reverse-start ordering. Output includes logical filename, kind and a backtick-delimited compact source, then requested symbol/type fields. compact walks parsed source tokens, excludes real //# line-comment nodes, preserves whole string/raw-string/char literal spans, and emits one space for gaps rather than joining separated tokens. It escapes backslash first, then backtick and physical newline/carriage return, retaining distinctions between an escaped newline and a real embedded newline while keeping descriptions on one line. It does not alter literal whitespace. types.rs freezes semantic names and recursive type structure before formatting: primitive kinds, mutability, tuples including singleton comma, arrays/lengths, function arguments/results, aliases/projections and opaque markers remain represented; inference holes are Missing and fail completeness. Qualified local module names and external definition paths avoid merging same-spelled distinct nominal types. Explicit error types remain visible. The captured symbols helper distinguishes genuine <unresolved> resolution from missing/unsupported correspondence, which returns an error.

Diagnostic/source rendering: diagnostic.rs keeps primary locations, labels with their styles and recursively rendered notes separate, uses actual source text (including annotation comments), and renders diagnostics in the collected vector order. source.rs normalizes paths only; observe prefixes fixture-relative src/ names rather than temporary project paths. Matching borrows diagnostics and cannot sort or deduplicate them. Captured snapshot_trace keeps operation, nesting, multiplicity and disposition, marks unknown keys unmapped and removes their allocation-dependent argument spelling; it sorts only explicitly unordered siblings. Its output remains a separate query string, not a substitute for diagnostics or observations.

All nine tests: evaluated_source_retains_blank_lines_indentation_and_unicode checks the exact logical source line, Unicode identifier and annotation-bearing excerpt after a leading blank line. matching_preserves_identical_diagnostics_and_output_order compares first/second/first renderings before and after matching and rejects too few markers. compact_descriptions_preserve_token_and_literal_contents asserts multiline/comment compaction, doubled literal spaces, escaped backslashes, physical raw-string newline escaping and intertoken whitespace normalization. labels_and_notes_do_not_supply_matching_locations asserts retained label and warning-note text while excluding them from eligibility. cold_queries_are_stable_across_isolated_projects checks equality across fresh hosts, real executed/body content and absence of temporary paths and allocation-ID spelling. unresolved_paths_still_require_error_markers first rejects an unaccounted resolution diagnostic, then asserts visible <unresolved> symbol text alongside separate error diagnostics and nonempty JSON queries without cross-contamination. invalid_source_reaches_sage asserts full multiline mismatch rendering with labels and source annotations. tuples_and_multiline_descriptions asserts child-before-parent ordering, duplicate-marker idempotence, tuple type formatting and one-line annotation-free multiline source. distinct_same_named_types_keep_their_identity asserts a::Value and b::Value separately, including inside a tuple. Not every formatting escape or type variant has a dedicated fixture, but the transformations and exhaustive formatting matches are visible and the tests exercise the claim's important distinction-preserving paths. No concrete defect or required edit found.
